Karen Arita Ramos

Communications Coordinator

Karen, a social communicator of Honduran nationality, joined the DPLF team in May 2021. Her role involves coordinating communication and social media strategy, as well as supporting the implementation of various communication initiatives with partner and allied organizations in the region.

Prior to this, Karen gained valuable experience working with Oxfam and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), where she spearheaded the design and execution of awareness and advocacy campaigns in favor of the promotion and defense of human rights. Specifically, her work focused on advancing the economic rights of women and youth, ensuring access to justice for women and girls, prevention of irregular migration, and preventing gender-based violence. In addition to campaign management, Karen played a key role in crafting institutional communication strategies to enhance the visibility and impact of these organizations.

Karen's involvement in Oxfam's regional campaign Enough! saw her co-directing a significant research titled "Unraveling Myths to Transform Imaginaries in Youth". This research delved into the beliefs and social norms perpetuating violence against women within partner relationships among both urban and rural youth in Honduras. Additionally, for six years, Karen conducted workshops aimed at bolstering communication capacities among youth groups and rural women's organizations.

Her professional repertoire extends beyond advocacy and campaign management to include project oversight for editorial endeavors and the execution of marketing campaigns for private enterprises.

Karen holds a bachelor's degree in Communication and Advertising, specializing in Audiovisual Production from the Universidad Tecnológica Centroamericana (UNITEC). Additionally, she holds a master's degree in Corporate Communication from the GADEX Program in collaboration with the University of Cádiz, Spain. Complementing her communication expertise, Karen also holds a bachelor's degree in Psychology with a focus on business applications.
