Extending across the Tigre, Corrientes, Pastaza, and Mara\u00f1\u00f3n river basins in Peru\u2019s remote Loreto province, block 192 is the largest-yielding oil field in Peru.\u00a0For over 40 years, the indigenous Kichwa, Quechua, Achuar, and Urarina peoples who live near the oil field have been exposed to\u00a0severe pollution, including heavy metals, and human rights abuses.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Since 2015, the Peruvian government has attempted to extend production of oil at the block for another 40 years. These Amazonian federations have responded by pushing for remediation and justice through a process of community consultation, establishing critical precedents for future hydrocarbon cases.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Please join Oxfam and the Due Process of Law Foundation (DPLF) as we examine the challenges and successes of this consultation process, and hear testimonies from two indigenous leaders on the front lines of the fight for community justice at block 192.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
