DPLF joins international organizations in letter regarding critical human rights situation in Guatemala to Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC)

Along with a diverse coalition of international and regional organizations, DPLF joined a letter to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Karim A. A. Khan KC emphasizing our profound concern about his remarks and tweets around the ICC mission to Guatemala, in particular regarding Guatemala’s commitment to human rights and the Rule of Law, at a time where the human rights situation in Guatemala continues to rapidly deteriorate. In particular, the letterhighlights the ongoing criminalization of current and former judges and prosecutors tasked with investigating serious human rights violations and grand corruption, a phenomenon that violates international legal norms and undermines Guatemalan democracy.
