Mariclaire Acosta, widely recognized as a human rights expert, is a prominent figure in academia, activism, and public service. Throughout her career, she has founded several civil society organizations dedicated to the promotion and defense of human rights, democracy, and transparency.
Among her notable roles, she has served as Director of Freedom House Mexico and as Director for the Americas at the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ). Additionally, she lent her expertise as a special advisor to the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) on Civil Society Affairs. During President Vicente Fox’s administration, Mariclaire held the position of Undersecretary for Human Rights and Democracy at Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Her commitment to human rights is further reflected in her tenure as a member of the advisory council of Mexico’s National Human Rights Commission from 2013 to 2019. In 2018, Mariclaire chaired Mexico’s National Anti-Corruption System, demonstrating her dedication to combating corruption in the country.
Currently, Mariclaire leads JTMX, an essential platform for exploring the possibilities of promoting a transitional justice process in Mexico. She also serves as President of Oxfam Mexico and chairs the Consultative Assembly of Mexico’s National Council to Prevent Discrimination (CONAPRED).
