Walter Albán is a Peruvian lawyer and academic with a distinguished career in constitutional law and human rights. Since 2015, he has served on DPLF’s Board of Directors, reinforcing his commitment to the promotion of justice and fundamental rights.
His extensive career includes invaluable service at the Office of the Ombudsman of Peru, where he contributed from its establishment in 1996. Walter took on the role of Ombudsman from late 2000 until 2005. In the diplomatic arena, he served as Peru’s Ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS) from 2012 to 2013. Subsequently, he was appointed Minister of the Interior of Peru.
Walter is a full professor and former dean of the Law School at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP). He is also an active member of the university’s Institute for Democracy and Human Rights, where he currently serves as director of the Master’s Program in Law with a specialization in Jurisdictional Policy. Since April 2021, Walter Albán has held the position of Executive Director of PROETICA, the Peruvian chapter of Transparency International.
