Gabriela Mundo

Gabriela Mundo is a Guatemalan lawyer with a Master’s degree in Constitutional Law. She joined the DPLF team in August 2022, where she focuses on monitoring and conducting technical assessments of high judicial appointments based on international standards and best practices. In addition, she addresses the obstacles and challenges faced by judicial independence in the region, as well as the protection of judicial operators in their role as human rights defenders. Gabriela also concentrates on the intersection of corruption and human rights, with a special emphasis on the role of civil society in the fight against corruption.

Before joining DPLF, Gabriela served as the Director of Cooperation and International Relations at the Office of the Human Rights Ombudsman (PDH) of Guatemala. In this role, she managed, coordinated, and facilitated technical and financial cooperation at both the national and international levels. She was also responsible for establishing international relations to further the PDH’s mandate.

With over 17 years of professional experience, Gabriela has held various positions, including roles in justice institutions in Guatemala, consulting for international organizations, teaching, parliamentary advising, and litigation.

Her robust educational background includes a law and notary degree from the Western University Center of the University of San Carlos of Guatemala, as well as a Master’s in Constitutional Law from the same university. Additionally, she has completed specialized studies in human rights and international human rights mechanisms.
