Karen Arita is a Honduran communications professional with a Master’s degree in Corporate Communications Management. In May 2021, she joined the DPLF team, taking on the role of coordinating the organization’s communication and social media strategy. Her work also includes advising and supporting the implementation of various communication initiatives and campaigns in collaboration with DPLF’s partner organizations across Latin America.
Prior to joining DPLF, Karen worked with Oxfam and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), where she coordinated the design and execution of awareness and advocacy campaigns for human rights. Her efforts focused on promoting women’s and youth’s economic rights, access to justice for women, preventing irregular migration, and combating gender-based violence. Additionally, Karen played a key role in developing institutional communication strategies and raising the visibility of these organizations.
During her involvement in Oxfam’s regional ¡Basta! campaign, Karen co-directed the research project “Desenredando mitos para transformar imaginarios en jóvenes” (“Untangling Myths to Transform Imaginaries in Youth”), which explored the social beliefs and norms that perpetuate violence against women in romantic relationships among urban and rural youth in Honduras. Karen also shared her expertise through workshops aimed at strengthening the communication capacities of youth collectives and feminist organizations.
Her professional experience also includes managing editorial projects and leading marketing campaigns for private companies in Honduras.
Karen holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and Advertising with a focus on Audiovisual Production from the Central American Technological University (UNITEC). Additionally, she holds a degree in Business Psychology and a Master’s in Corporate Communications from the GADEX program and the University of Cádiz.
