EVENTO | Una conversación con Austraberta Flores Cáceres, madre de la activista del medio ambiente hondureña y líder indígena Berta Cáceres y Gustavo Cáceres, hermano de Berta

18 de septiembre 2019

Please join the Due Process of Law Foundation, Oxfam, the Seattle International Foundation and the Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA) for a discussion with Austraberta Flores Cáceres, the mother of slain Honduran environmental activist and indigenous leader Berta Cáceres, and Gustavo Cáceres, Berta´s brother. The family will be joined by Honduran Congresswoman Doris Gutierrez, Oxfam Honduras Country Director George Redman, and the Association for a More Just Society (ASJ) Board Director Kurt Ver Beek. The panelists will speak about the murder case, impunity and corruption, and human rights in Honduras.

Background: Berta Cáceres was assassinated in 2016 for protesting the Agua Zarca Dam. Because she was internationally known, her murder brought increased attention to the Honduran government and to a country that continues to be deadly for human rights and environmental activists. Her family is concerned that sentencing delays for the accused killers as well as delays in prosecuting David Castillo, the alleged mastermind behind the assassination and the former CEO of Energy Development SA (DESA), will prevent justice in this case.

When: Wednesday, September 18, 2019

Time: 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Where: 421 Cannon House Office Building, 1st & Independence Avenue SE
